4th Aug, U2 deny concert rumours: Once again, some unscrupulous operators are offering U2 tickets for concerts which haven't even been announced yet. Of course they claim they have inside knowledge that they're going to happen, but U2 themselves have denied that any concerts are planned this year and warned fans not to buy any tickets until concerts are officially announced on U2.com. Anyone risking their hard earned money on unconfirmed shows is asking for trouble, unfortunately. Even if agents offer your money back, they usually hold on to a non-refundable booking fee of some sort, so you'll still end up out of pocket. Best wait till the next tour's announced...which should hopefully happen shortly after the next album is released. That could still be later this year. 27th Jul, U2 for babies : It's all go here as Catherine and I are expecting our first child early next year. We received a present yesterday from our good friends Phil and Jessica in New York...it's a CD of lullabye versions of U2 songs such as Where the Streets Have No Name, Angel of Harlem and New Year's Day. We never knew such a thing existed! If you like the sound of that, you can buy the disc through www.rockabyemusic.com. You can listen to samples of each song there. It's U2 like you've never heard them before. 10th May, Happy Birthday, Bono: The world's greatest frontman turns 48 today. His friend Professor Jeffrey Sachs has been pressing him to let him join the band but wisely Bono has turned him down! I think the professor should stick to sorting out the world's economic problems and leave music to Bono. I haven't been too active in keeping up this site lately (so what's new, I hear you ask!) because of things like getting married to the lovely Catherine and sorting out our new house and even starting a new job. It's all go here! Anyway I hope to be more diligent in future. That's the plan anyway... 13th Mar, Happy birthday Adam: Adam Clayton turns 48 today. Hard to believe that this former wild child is now firmly in the foothills of middle age. I'm sure he'll continue to grow old disgracefully though. I don't really see him as the pipe-and-slippers type...do you? 17th Feb, U2 3D set for UK release: As you can see from the banner above, the U2 3D movie is set for UK release on the 22nd of February with preview screenings on the 21st. The director, Catherine Owens, describes the experience as "like being on the wings of a bird flying around the concert stadium". Sounds pretty impressive. Get a taste of the movie here. The film was made during the south American leg of the Vertigo tour because Bono felt that "if we were going to do this right, we had to do it in South America, since the band’s presence after an eight-year hiatus from the continent was certain to draw vibrant and enthusiastic crowds”. If that doesn't make you desperate to see it, I don't know what will! 30th Dec, Another year older and deeper in debt: ...to quote the great Tennessee Ernie Ford. What will 2008 bring for U2? A new album? Bono says "probably". A tour? Maybe not till early 2009. A new studio in Dublin's Docklands? It should be started, at least - although it's not due to be finished until 2011. I hope 2008 is a great year for all of us...I know it will be for me. :-) 24th Nov, Bono and Edge turn up at charity concert: Bono and Edge surprised the 250-strong audience at a London charity concert in aid of Mencap last night when they appeared on stage and played four songs: Stay, Desire, Angel Of Harlem and a first-time performance of Wave Of Sorrow - a track originally written for their 1987 album Joshua Tree and which appears on the newly remastered version of it. The U2 stars came on as support for Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro and left to a standing ovation. The show's organiser, Jo Whiley of Radio 1, said Bono and Edge were nervous before going onstage and were wary of upstaging the event. It'll be interesting to see if any recordings of the event show up online in the next few days. 23rd Nov, U2 quash rumours of London shows next year: U2 have officially denied recent press speculation that they were planning to play up to 21 nights at the O2 arena in London next year (like Prince recently did). Some websites were claiming that the concerts had been arranged and were due to be announced soon but U2.com has said there are no plans for any live concerts next year at all. However, the band have urged fans not to buy tickets if they're offered any or find any online, as all concert dates will be officially announced through U2.com |
